  • Letter from George B. Brown, Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, to LP RE: Mentions LP's earlier inquiry to him regarding 9-methyl-adenine. Mentions that he has prepared it by methylating Adenine with CH3I in Sodium Hydroxide. This procedure yields two products, 7- and 9-methyl-adenine, which are separated by means of fractional crystallization. Mentions that he is sending several milligrams of an unanalyzed sample of the 9-methyl-adenine crystals which should be of enough quality to be mounted for analysis. Also mentions LP's former request for 3-methylthymine, specifying that he has 1-methylthymine, (which may be the identical compound depending on the system of nomenclature being used).
