    3 November 1954

    Dr. Richard Lippman

    414 N. Camden Drive

    Beverly Hills, Calif.

    Dear Dick:

I went to see Dr. Sherry a couple of days ago. He stuck a needle in my finger, and what looked like pus came out of the hole that it left. He decided that is was probably a pus sac and injected some novacaine and opened it up. There was a moderate amount of white matter there, which he removed. He seems to be satisfied with the situation - he looked at the finger again. Thanks for encouraging me to get the finger tended to.

    Sincerely yours,
    [Linus Pauling]
