July 1, 1942
Dean L. W. Jones
We have made the following plans for Chemistry 1 for the year 1942-43. These involve handling Sections A and B in a laboratory in the Kerckhoff Laboratories, and also giving Sections A and B one separate lecture.
Kerckhoff 3 is a small laboratory in which 20 men can work at a time. It is being outfitted for Sections A and B. Each of these sections is to be scheduled for two three-hour laboratory periods in this room, which will thus be occupied for a total of four three-hour laboratory periods in Chemistry 1. The other eight sections C to J would be scheduled for laboratory work in 101 Gates as usual.
One of the chemistry lectures can be scheduled for the Norman Bridge lecture room, with all ten sections attending at the same time. The preferable hour for this lecture is Friday at 10:00. It is difficult to present demonstration experiments in the Physics lecture room, so it is planned that the other chemistry lecture be given in the chemistry lecture room, 22 Gates, with the class split into two parts. The preferred hours are 9:00 Wednesday for Sections A and B, and 11:00 Wednesday for the other eight sections.
I request that the chemistry lecture room be reserved also for 8:00 and 10:00 Wednesday, and physics lecture room for 9:00 Friday, in order that apparatus may be set up.
