In this clear and thoughtful discourse, retired Forest Service scientist and pioneer researcher at Andrews Forest Roy Silen responds to questions from more than a dozen highly experienced members of the Andrews Forest community on a wide range of topics: life in the early years of working in that forest primeval before any road access, the conditions of the landscape, interactions with the Willamette National Forest (including both constructive exchanges and conflicts), impressions of H.J. Andrews as a person, and his decision to not return to the Andrews Forest for decades.
