  • Letter from Hal D. Springall, Dept. of Chemistry, Bristol University, to Miss Little, RE: Fear that some of his letter may have been lost in the battle of the Atlantic. Describes war life at Bristol, states he got married in June of 1940, explains their house was destroyed in an air raid and they had a house 20 miles from Bristol, but have now moved back to Bristol University. Discusses some of the political opinions surrounding the war. Reminisces about the time he was at Cal Tech and asks Little to relate the news of him to a list of others. Handwritten in the upper left margin: "Dear Prof. Pauling: I am taking this method of passing along Dr. Springall's greeting, as I feel sure you will be interested in what he has to say. B. Little."
