I envy you the opportunity of working in Sir William Bragg's private office and laboratory and I hope that you live up to the implied compliment by putting out some good work while in London.

I am glad to learn about your bromoacetylene result. Methylacetylene has been completed, giving a C—C single bond distance of 1.46 Å. The investigation of the other substances is moving along slowly. I have just returned from a meeting of the AAAS in San Diego. Several of the boys from the laboratory presented papers there.

All of our doctorate candidates have received degrees and most of them are placed for the coming year. Schomaker is staying on as Hale Follow in charge of the electron diffraction apparatus. Eyster has a National Research Fellowship and will probably be at Michigan with you, working mainly in the Physics Department. Taylor has a job with Shell Development, Winstein is continuing his research here and Garner and Oxborne are staying on with Yost as Noyes Fellows, Palmer is to go to Washington University, Saint Louis, where he is to be Research Assistant to Schmitt in the Zoology Department. Elliott has been made Assistant Professor at Pomona, and Levy my carry

We are beginning to get apparatus moved into the new laboratory. The magnet is set up over here now but the other apparatus hasn't yet been moved.

My wife and I have bought a plot of ground, 2.1 acres, in Sierra Madre Villa, a few hundred feet south of Dr. Bell's place and we are thinking of building a one story ranch type house there this summer.

I am just putting the finishing touches on the last two chapters on the chemical bond.

Corey has finished the structure of diketopiperazine and Corey and Albrecht are polishing up glycine, Corey is going to stay for another year and work on related substances. Brasseur is spending the summer here and his wife is along this time too.
