Letter from Linus Pauling to Joseph O. Hirschfelder. December 19, 1939Pauling states that Hirschfelder will be welcome at Caltech as a Lalor Fellow. He notes that the Lalor Fellowship emphasizes chemistry in its application to biology and suggests that Hirschfelder accordingly address the color of organic molecules with reference to naturally-occurring substances in order to augment his chances for receipt of the fellowship.
