Title
Sage Briddon Oral History Interview
Description
Briddon began by talking about how they identify and what that means to them specifically. They talked briefly about their childhood, and how they struggled in school because of their autism and they had few friends or extracurriculars. They learned about queer gender identities from someone at school, and it opened them up to the idea that you could identify in a way other than with your assigned sex. They talked about being interested in animals and nature as a kid, and chose their name, Sage, due to its connection to the plant and a few other reasons. For their objects, they brought a skirt, representing how femininity can be restricting, and a vest, representing how masculinity can be too big and prone to falling off. They then shared what is euphoric and dysphoric to them, that being seen as neutral, wearing clothes for comfort and utility, and wearing neutral colors. They shared the importance of clothing too them, shared some of their favorite pieces and uses for them, and shared how Jeremy Wade from “River Monsters” is a big inspiration to them. They then talked about their experiences coming out to their grandparents and mother, as well as their experiences in online spaces. They shared that they always feel the most comfortable in the woods and shared some sage advice on their life outlook. Lastly, they talked about their experience at OSU, how they hope to be perceived by their peers, and their experiences with invasive plants.
