Several British catalogues in the OSU collection from the 1920s and early 1930s promote “British Grown Bulbs”. The front and back covers of the Autumn 1929 Sutton & Son catalogue show idyllic watercolors of bulb fields in Cornwall and Lincolnshire. There are also several catalogues from the Welsh Bulb Fields. Dutch companies such as The Old Farm Nursery also grew bulbs in England and conducted tours of Dutch bulb fields from London. Walter Blom’s English-language bulb catalogues emphasized their global reach. Both demand for bulbs and competition among growers for the British market appears to have been strong.
