Letter from Linus Pauling to Paul Emmett. April 26, 1949Pauling supposes that nitrogen adsorption measurements would not show "significant differences" among the samples. He adds that Dr. Dickey tested some samples with fluorescein and found the adsorption rates to be the same, but notes that hydrocarbon molecule adsorption rates might be affected by the length of the chain in different gels. He mentions that he has not been feeling well after a minor surgery and had to give up a trip to Washington where he was supposed to present a paper on sickle cell anemia to the National Academy. He writes that he is looking forward to seeing Emmett on his trip to Pittsburgh, where he is giving a speech to the American Chemical Society in May, before going to Chicago to see Debye receive the Willard Gibbs Medal.
