Description
In the interview, Betty Reynolds discusses her upbringing in Portland, Oregon and her high school experience at Woodrow Wilson High School where she was very involved. She notes that she participated in student council, was a cheerleader, and was even voted May Queen. She then discusses her attendance at Oregon State University beginning in 1966, where she majored in American Studies. She also explains that she had a daughter at this time and that she was the first student to serve on a state board. She ultimately earned a PhD in Public Administration and Policy.
From there, Reynolds talks about serving on many boards, and discusses her successful career in civic engagement. She notes in particular that, after the conclusion of her career, she was elected to her local school board for two terms, and later served as President of the Oregon School Boards Association. She was also on the National School Boards Action Center board, helped set the legislative agenda for the National School Board Association policy committee, and was active with the Oregon Community College Association and the Association of Community College Trustees.
