Susan Mowery
The daughter of an Oregon State graduate, Susan Mowery (b. 1948) was raised in Portland, attending Holy Child Academy where she discovered a love of science. After one year at Gonzaga University, Mowery transferred to OSU, where she double-majored in Zoology and Microbiology. She completed her undergraduate studies in 1970 and then returned to Portland to pursue a career in public health. Mowery initially worked for the Oregon Health Division, and then later moved to a virology laboratory at Portland State University, where she remained until 2011.
