Interviewee: Melissa Cheyney
Interviewer: Jozie Billings
Interview Date: February 23, 2024
Location: Interview recorded over Zoom
Duration: 0:25:39
Melissa Cheyney starts her second interview by sharing a story about when she first started to feel like a midwife, in that she attended a breach birth alone at a home birth with no complications, and what this experience taught her. Cheyney then reflects on the influential midwives that she has trained with in her career, including the four midwives she trained under, an African midwife, and a Lakota midwife, and how these experiences, especially the cross-cultural ones, have given her new perspectives and knowledge. Lastly, Cheyney reflects on how the Anthropology department at OSU has supported her in being both a midwife and a professor. She shares two stories about times when the support was tested, and she was met with nothing but positivity.
