Linus Pauling: ...here is another one, the polypeptide chain twisted into this helical form. This is the double helix discovered by Watson and Crick. Professor Corey and I were interested in it at the time. I even expressed the feeling that I thought sometime I would find the structure of nucleic acid. But thinking back on it, I decided that I wasn't working hard enough at the job. That's as good an excuse as I can think of, that I wasn't working hard enough.
