Pauling writes to thank Allen for the sample of xenon.

Dear Fred:

Thanks immensely for the xenon, which arrived safely. We are going to try to make XeF8 or XeF6 at once. Some of the excitement is removed by the appearance since I wrote you of a note by von Antropoff et al. in Die Naturw. saying that they have a chloride & bromide of Kr. *

I’ll let you know if we have any luck.
