Pauling Note to Self re: sickle cell crisis incurred while under anesthesia. November 1975.
Pauling records the details of a phone conversation that he recently had with Dr. Hasson in which an incident of shock was discussed. In the incident, a four-year old African-American child went into shock, an eventually died, while under anesthesia for dental repair. Pauling and Hasson theorize that the shock was likely brought on by blood sickling, but are uncertain as to whether or not the sickling was caused by the anesthetic.
