Letter from Linus Pauling to Warren Weaver. October 5, 1944. Pauling writes to express partial agreement with Weaver's skepticism toward the large-scale
post-war program of protein research that Pauling had previously outlined. Though
he does not feel that it will be too difficult to recruit a large and well-trained
corps of scientific assistants, Pauling does grant that the proposal might benefit
from some measure of scaling back. That said, Pauling feels very strongly that the
protein-structure determination tools that have been developed in recent years at
Caltech are very powerful and, if marshaled intensively, could efficiently produce
a large and important body of work. Transcript.
