Pauling writes to inquire about specific suggestions that Itano may wish to make regarding the treatment of sickle cell anemia with sodium nitrite. Pauling also seeks to clarify whether or not more sickle cell blood needs to be requested of Dr. Burch's patients.

Would you want to make any specific suggestion to Dr. Burch about the use of sodium nitrite in treating sickle cell patients?

Also, I judge that you do not want any more sickle cell blood, sent up by Dr. Burch. If you do, let me know.
