Linus Pauling: There are thousands of diseases that are the result of abnormal genes. Diabetes is the result of a defective gene. I think that schizophrenia is a complex of diseases with a very large genetic component, and I think that in the course of time we shall learn about these genetic diseases.

But then there are physical ailments such as cystic fibrosis. It is a disease that is quite prevalent, it has a genetic basis, and in the course of time I believe that we will be able to overcome it by some sort of replacement therapy, which may involve DNA itself, nucleic acid itself.
