My very dear Dr. Einstein:
Your letter of January 15th has been on my desk for many days now, and neglected until now only because of many other personal matters which has precluded my getting down to bend tacks and its answers. It is my belief you and your committee are on the right track and I wish to Heaven I could back you all up in a real worthwhile way, from the dollars and cents point of view. But being in the position that I am -- and over which I have no control -- I am forced to spread pretty thin my contributions to the causes in which I am most interested : though I am quick willing to admit
