history

             -3—
    2) Next he will release the energy of all other known elements.
   3) Next he will determine the exact relationship of the energy of each element to each other -- and this is the final step, for when this is determined, the releasing of the energy of the atoms in any one element will create a spontaneous chain reaction of the atomic disintegration of all earth matter into a release of total earth energy. Result— our earth will be as a star shooting out of space.
Or perhaps man's destruction will be at the moment of his complete control of the atom; the discovery of the mystery of the nucleus, how it is held together against the explosive forces within it. It will be the solving of the very riddle of his own existence. How presumptious and stupid of man! Does he not realize that he will no longer exist in the universe when he had reached that point in time. Or does he wonder at what the response of the universe will be and is he anxious to hasten it. In the words of Isaiah. "Woe unto them ... That say: "Let Him make speed, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it."

There are certain outward signs of our progression toward this end. The most obvious is our gradual overcoming of space in shorter and shorter time. When time and space are one, there will no longer be existence.
In atomic planning there has been talk of the dispersment of cities and placing key industries underground. How true do the words of Isaiah ring today. "And the idols shall utterly pass away. And, men shall go into the caves of the rocks, and into the holes of the earth, from before the terror of the Lord, and from the glory of His majesty, when He ariseth to shake mightily the earth.".
