and then called a radical or a communist --but one must expect this. I will not be surprised if this gets worse. But am not going to stop, when I know that the imbecile fringe numbers about one out of ten thousand. For a guy who has talked 144 times it's not too surprising to pick up an occasional moron reaction here or there. That's in the book too. But lightly, gently. I think.
 8. My wife is with me all the way, of course. And the two kids. And my dog. And even the goldfish, I fancy---seems to look toward the door when I return late at night. My wife takes care of my diet in a remarkable way---knows plenty about foods and vitamins. Graduate of Pomona College in English, but learned diet by herself. I think it means plenty. She also ladles out 6 vitamin pills every day --- I just take and don't ask questions--- she also helps kids ---takes them to dancing school and helps boy (6, girl 4) with piano lessons.

 9. I do not have any secretaries---but I use my men in my department, when I need to ---for example, occasionally another professor will take one of my classes while I travel; also, use student assistants --- they do occasional errands, wrap a package, go down town, etc; also, one of them (Interruption---supt from Page, ND, just phoned for Commencement address on May 28th. okay) drives me to the towns -- it's much more restful that way, while I usually go to sleep in the back seat; big car (his); carry big pillow, blankets; no stove yet or cocktail bar; then after talk, I go to sleep again in back of car, sometimes do not waken till he says,"Home." That's in the book too.
 10. Now for my ultimate secret---re how can I do so much (if you only knew how hard I worked on the Mendeleyev book---should be out in a few months; and on the new book, besides all the talks, etc...): the secret, essentially: I never hold back when I give a talk; no matter how small or uneducated the group; I give the works near unto exhaustion; yes, that way I become refreshed. That's the only way. To give half way would soon tire me completely. Oh I get tired the hard way too---but something sends the energy back. Ask some psychologist.
           We'll show them.
