Miss Mary E. Ray ECAS, 118 Nassau St; Princeton, New Jersey

Dear Miss Ray:

I just received your two letters---meanwhile, you have probably received one of mine. Thanks a lot for the nice sentiments in your letters---and before I forget, all means, I would like to have as many as possible of the Einstein appeal to the UN Assembly. I am sending you some newspaper and other publicity material, and from now on will do as you suggest---will ask the radio stations, newspapers, etc to supply me with a double set of releases and I will send you one set... There is really a tremendous amount of newspaper stuff that I myself have missed---so many small towns have splurged picture and story on front page relative to the talk--I might try to pick up some of these to send you. Before I forget---I am receivng the LIFE exhibit of pictures on atomic energy in April, and in connection with that will also send for movies etc and have an especially big week of doings all over the State. Will keep you informed.
  2. With re to the High School fan mail---will try to organize it, though it's a bit hard when I address the entire student body. Of course the only reason that I have been using Prof. Einstein's name was because of the glamor, and no address was needed to be remembered other than Princeton...But will try to fix this. I never expected Prof. Einstein to read the stuff--- I thought that he would see the North Dakota stamp and would lay the letters aside for you. Of course that is probably what has been happening and it does involve double handling. But as I say, I will fix it all up when possible. I'll always tell about sending stamps (to the kids) instead of money. But not to the grown-ups!
3. "North Dakota Pushes for Peace" is now in secondary stage: we spoke to four cities---attendance was 700, 350, 500, and 750. Now each of the cities has a Committee and this group goes to two other cities (each Committee goes to two distinct cities) and try to organize meetings there; then each of the new cities performs and after that goes and organizes two cities---this is obviously the chain reaction of the call for peace we are awaiting organization of the second stage. However, as you know, I personally wait for nothing. I go right on with my private meetings which I organize for the whole city anyway---only I call it then "The Atomic Age." However, I always tell about "North Dakota Pushes for Peace." It all amounts to doing the same thing twice over--though it is better when we have big groups of people involved in arranging the meetings etc. By the way, yesterday I spoke at Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, before the Rural Electrification Association; I think it means ordinary people who get electricity on some sort of Co-operative basis--- well, do you know how many people attended: 2,500. The enormous Hall was packed to the rafters.
