Dr. Albert Einstein, Chairman Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists Room 28, 90 Nassau Street Princeton, New Jersey

Dear Doctor Einstein:

I am sending a contribution of $25 for the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists.

No one knows as much about atomic bombs as the scientists, and this is the place where your leadership must be followed. It is very difficult to get people to realize that scientists are of political importance, but it is time they are learning it. With such leaders as you and Doctor Urey, your organization should have the full support of the American people.
Is it not possible to get the many organizations that are fighting for peace to work together? It seems to me that it would be well to work through established organizations. If the Women's Clubs, the physicians, the labor unions, PTA, Service Clubs, colleges and universities, et cetera, could all unite in one organization for peace, and this could also be done in other countries, there would be no war. I do not believe that people understand how costly the preparation for war is. If only this money could be spent for the betterment of mankind, it would raise the standard of living in every country.
Unity is the thing that is needed right now. Whatever is to be done should be done within the next two or three years. Such a movement should extend throughout the world — in every nation. Politicians are guided too much by the papers and radio commentators, and these as a rule are reactionary.

          Very sincerely yours,
          F.M. Pottenger, M.D.
