L. W. Neustadter 19 Rametto Road SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA
January 16th.1948.
Dr.Albert Einstein, Chairman, Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists, Princeton,N.J.
Dear Doctor Einstein,
It is with real regret that I am unable to make a more generous contribution to this so worthy cause, but it so happens at this writing that the heavy expenses incurred thru the purchase and furnishing of a house ,combined with an unexpected Federal tax assessment, has seriously depleted my resources.
I do indeed realize the nature of the menace confronting us, and for that matter, our entire alleged civilization, and hope that the citizens of these United States will awake to this danger in time to avert the catastrophe threatening the world.
Perhaps I am a bit too realistic, nevertheless believe that as long as we maintain a powerful army, navy and air force, ready at all times to strike at a moment's notice, we can be assured of reasonable security; for individuals and Nations alike hesitate to provoke a quarrel with a formidable antagonist. With all good wishes and assurance of esteem, I remain, Very sincerely, Louis W. Neustadter
