history

66 West Fifty-second Street New York City 19 May 9, 1947 Albert Einstein, Chairman Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists 90 Nassau Street, Princeton, N.J. Dear Doctor Einstein: I have just read the pamphlet titled "Only Then Shall We Find Courage" containing expressions of opinion by Professor Albert Einstein and Dean Christian Gauss on the subject of atomic energy. I have been impressed to its extent that I intend to enlist the support of all my friends and their acquaintances, and have set myself the goal of $100 to collect for your fund. I should greatly appreciate it if you would send me some copies of the pamphlet which I now have to facilitate the carrying out of my little campaign. Any further information which you might have on the work of the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists will also be gratefully accepted. Sincerely yours, Jean Maxwell
