education, please write us again. I hope by September I can contribute more to the cause. I am afraid that the Bikini experiment may have had a bad effect on the Public. Familiarity with the bomb may breed contempt. I hear people saying "Well, it really is not so bad after all!" Thank you and the scientists who are with you for doing all you can. I like to think that had President Roosevelt lived, the bomb would not have been used save as a demonstration, as you suggest in your article in the New York Times Magazine. I grieve that America has used such a frightful weapon. It makes us vulnerable in the eyes of the [mad?]. Yours faithfully, Elizabeth Matthews.
