history

Henry Lowenthal, 234 Heberton Avenue Port Richmond Staten Island New York May 30, 1946 Dr. Albert Einstein, Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey Dear Dr. Einstein: I was delighted to read in the N. Y. Times of May 29th your progressive and deep penetrating conclusion, that the scientific minds must now change our thinking in the world of politics and law. With this concluding thought you may unfolded the brilliant rays of pure sunshine to wage the just war upon obstructive forces for human welfare, peace and security. Obsolete laws affecting human relations, which grand special privileges for no good doing, and their administration who decree life-long punishment for no actual wrong doing, as proven in marital separations, if scientifically investigated I believe it will prove they are contributing considerably to discord, ill-will, sickness, crime and child delinquency, because they are conceived, framed, and administered by xx the political, legal and dogmatic conceptions which deal with human emotions as with cattle and merchandise, contrary to the scientific approach of understanding, fairness, and reasonableness. I am therefore deeply in sympathy with your noble appeal for funds to further that change. I take great pleasure in the privilege to contribute and enclose check. I believe if the economic and social Council of the United Nations, which aims to achieve physical, mental, preventative and curative health for all peoples of the world, would investigate the above and, if the facts warrant correction, will make the just recommendations which will eliminate the present ill effects, it will serve as a model for a happy human relationship in harmony with new economic and social conditions of our present day. Very truly yours, Henry Lowenthal
