Baltimore, Maryland Department of Epidemiology School of Hygiene and Public Health May 12, 1948
Dear Dr. Einstein, As a former contributor to the ECAS I am writing to urge that some way be found to merge or affiliate your organization with that of the United World Federalists. This seems only natural since the beliefs of the two groups appear to be identical. I am aware that you are avoiding political action on the grounds of retaining your amateur standing with regard to Federal Income Taxes. At the same time I feel that where there is a will a way can be found. It seems to me that the time has already come to indicate courses of action as well as belief. Scientists traditionally slow in accepting this obligation. It seems to me that the enormous prestige of your organization could be utilized even more effectively than it is. I am hoping that you will get enough letters like this to start something. Yours sincerely, S/ Howard A. Howe, M.D. Adjunct Prof. of Epidemiology
