JUN 9 RECD

MRS. PERCY V-D. GOTT One South Street, Goshen, N.Y.

June 15, 1948

Dear Mr and Mrs - -

"I ask your thoughtful consideration of the enclosed statement, which presents the essentials of a policy that we believe will bring about world peace, rather than international chaos and the destruction of civilization." These are the words of Albert Einstein.

He, and the atomic scientists associated with him, are deeply concerned with the grave condition of the world today, augmented, as it is, by the horror of the use of the atomic bomb. The adjournment of the United Nations negotiations on atomic energy control makes it more important than ever that thoughtful citizens assume a personal responsibility.

We can question neither the authority nor the integrity of this group of eminent men. They know the facts. They have considered the possibilities and the consequences of an atomic war. They see only one way out.

They do not expect the solution to come about "overnight". They do maintain that "the ultimate goal of peace" can be achieved only through world government.

If you agree with them, as I do, I urge you to use your influence with your friends, and particularly with our legislators, to work toward this end.

Very sincerely yours,

Theodora V. Gott (signature)
