THE CHOATE SCHOOL WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT

December 12, 1940

Dear Miss Burke:

Thank you for your note telling re that Professor I7eisskopf of M.I.T. has offered to speak at Choate or to send us a good representative. Only three weeks ago Mr. Henry Fairbanks, a young member of the Physics Department at Yale, who was at Los Alamos, told me that your office had been in touch with him about the possibility of speaking at Choate. We made a definite date, and Mr. Fairbanks gave one of the clearest and best talks we have had here at Choate for several years.
Mr. Fairbanks gave exactly the clear, yet simple, picture of the scientific facts on atomic energy which we wanted. At the same time he pointed out very effectively the political and moral responsibility of the United States in this whole big natter.
If you have occasion to recommend Mr. Fairbanks as a speaker, I can assure you that he is topnotch and that you can recommend him with complete confidence.
                                     Yours sincerely and gratefully,
                                           George St. John, Jr.
