Dear Dr. Einstein:
My brother Douglas P. Haskell showed me the telegram you sent him and his wife, My wife and I have been greatly concerned about atomic energy, and its possibilities, constructive and destructive. We also have been much impressed with the work being done by Dr. Urey and other scientists to try and arouse the people to some realization of the fate that lies in store for us unless we make some fundamental changes. We see no solution short of a Federal World Government, with civilian control, exercised on a broad democratic base, of atomic energy.
I wish this check could be a thousand times as large. Next fall our financial situation should be somewhat improved, and if it is, we will not forget this most important work you are doing, and that it takes money to do it effectively.
