Mary E. Ray # 2, May 7, 1947

rather hectic time in which we were permitted to discuss this matter, I do not think I had much opportunity, of any, to tell you of my lecture, “Atomic Power – Plus”, which I have been giving to Youth Conferences. The “Plus” is the factor which we are going to have to find and use, if Man is to continue to live in safety in a world where Atomic Power has been released. I mention this give you somewhat of background, as so you would understand why I was prompted to seek the contact with Dr. Einstein Monday, and why I am asking you to continue it for me, if possible.

Should you be so fortunate as to be able to do this shortly, perhaps he would still remember me, and our discussion of the “formula”.

My experience there at Princeton on Monday still leaves me wondering, and almost breathless. To have had the opportunity of meeting the Great Doctor in person was a privilege which I hardly dared hope for. Supplementing that was the courtesy and cooperation I met on every hand, outstanding in which was your own interest and kindness. I believe I must have been affected by some sort of “radio activity”, which causes the memory of this day to glow as one of life’s outstanding experiences.

Sincerely yours,

B:W

P.S. On returning from New York on the train Monday evening, I remarked to the young lady sitting side of me ( I judge she was between 25 and 30) that I had had a very interesting experience that day.

“What was that”, she asked.

“I had the opportunity of shaking hands with Albert Einstein,” I replied.

“Who’s he?” she inquired.

I do not know whether I was entirely able to hide my shocked surprise or not.

(I believe Dr. Einstein is enough of a humorist that he might enjoy this little story.)
