MARY McLEOD BETHUNE Founder-President National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (Affiliated with the National Council of Women of the United States, Inc., and International Council Women of the World) 1318 Vermont Avenue, Northwest Washington 5, D. C. Telephone: COlumbia 4491 September 30, 1947 Dr. Albert Einstein Chairman, Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists, Inc. 90 Nassau Street Princeton, New Jersey My dear Dr. Einstein: I just want to write you a little note to tell you how heartening your statement of September 14th was. I have read it over and over again. You have expressed exactly what I think and I am hoping with all my heart that the 134,000,000 people of America will catch the gleam of hope just as I have gotten it from your letter. We together can stem the tide that is now seemingly approaching us. We must do all that we know how to realize the peace - the brotherhood - and the one democratic world all of our hearts desire. Whatever my organization can do to help we shall be most happy so to do. Sincerely yours, Mary McLeod Bethune Founder-President Enclosure $5
