COL. V. M. ELMORE U.S. ARMY RET'D 535 McDONOUGH STREET MONTGO<ERY 5, ALABAMA
4th May, '47. MAY 7 RECD
Dear Doctor Einstein:
It has been a source of real regret to me that I have been hitherto prevented from an earlier acknowledgement of your letter of 27th March, relative to control of the atomic bomb, and of atomic energy. [illegible]
It is also my regret that I am unable to forward a greater amount than I now enclose to help further the most laudable ideas of the Emergency Committee. Due to prior commitments and obligations of a financial nature I am prevented from making a greater contribution. Allow me, therefore, to enclose the names of other citizens who, I believe, would probably contribute in larger degree that I have been able.
With every good wish for a continuance of your health and for you active interest as Chairman of the Committee,
Truly yours, [signature] V.M. Elmore, (Colonel, U.S. Army, retired).
Dr. Albert Einstein, Princeton, New Jersey. (encl- check).
