Roy Silen Group Oral History Interview
Description
In this clear and thoughtful discourse, retired Forest Service scientist and pioneer researcher at Andrews Forest Roy Silen responds to questions from more than a dozen highly experienced members of the Andrews Forest community on a wide range of topics: life in the early years of working in that forest primeval before any road access, the conditions of the landscape, interactions with the Willamette National Forest (including both constructive exchanges and conflicts), impressions of H.J. Andrews as a person, and his decision to not return to the Andrews Forest for decades. The questions came from Linda Ashkenas (technician, Fisheries and Wildlife, OSU), Lynn Burditt (District Ranger, Blue River Ranger District (RD)), John Cissel (Research Liaison, Blue River RD), Pam Druliner (communications, Andrews Forest and Blue River RD), Stan Gregory (professor, Fisheries and Wildlife, OSU), Don Henshaw (information management, PNW Station), Peter Homann (soils, Forest Science, OSU), Matt Hunter (wildlife, Blue River RD), Jack Lattin (professor, Entomology, OSU), Al Levno (lead technician for Andrews, PNW Station), Art McKee (Director, Andrews Forest, OSU), Phil Sollins (professor, soils, Forest Science, OSU), Fred Swanson (geologist, PNW Station), Dave Wallin (post-doc, landscape ecology, Forest Science, OSU), Steve Wondzell (hydrologist, PNW Station).
