Interview Date: February 25, 2021
Location: Separate residences, collected over Zoom
Duration: 1:25:00

In the interview, Kryn Freehling-Burton describes the various important details of her childhood and her upbringing, namely the many poignant experiences that really drove her passion towards theater, feminism and education. Freehling-Burton also notes that witnessing her family move from lower to middle class was a significant impact on her upbringing as well.

After graduating high school, Kryn enrolled in a university to follow a boy who she was involved in, and this is a decision that she really regrets, as she did not truly know what she wanted to study. Upon consideration of transferring after the marriage failed, she ended up staying at the same small college in California, and pursued her interest in theater.

Upon enrolling in the theater program at college, Kryn met her second husband Eric. The couple decided to discover more about themselves and the world around them from a more feminist-centered perspective, which Kryn describes as beginning around the time of her first child’s birth.

The remainder of the interview is comprised of a discussion of Freehling-Burton's time at Oregon State and how her place in Corvallis came to be; her involvement within the campus and the community around it; and the extent to which the COVID-19 pandemic has affected both her personal and private endeavors.
