This website was originally created in Winter 2018 to serve as a platform for seven oral history interviews collected by students enrolled in an honors colloquium class titled "OSU, Women and Oral History: An Exploration of 150 Years" (HC 407), taught by Tiah Edmunson-Morton and Chris Petersen. Moving forward, Voices of OSU Women will continue to be populated with a broad array of legacy interviews held by the Special Collections and Archives Research Center (SCARC) at Oregon State University Libraries, as well as new interviews captured by OSU faculty, staff and students, and deposited with SCARC.

Voices of OSU Women was created by Chris Petersen and Ryan Wick with the assistance of Tiah Edmunson-Morton, Jennifer Belle, Madeleine Connolly, Marin Rosenquist, McKenzie Ross and Clara Smith.

Related Oral History Resources

In addition to this website, a great many more oral history interviews with OSU women have been released on the OSU Sesquicentennial Oral History Project website, as well as the Multicultural Voices of Oregon, Voices of Oregon Agricultural College and Voices of a Warming Planet web portals. Another product of the SCARC Oral History Program, Voices of Northwest Brewing, contains several interviews with women who are active in the brewing industry. Likewise, Voices of Oregon Burlesque chronicles the lives of women burlesque performers across the state.

Technical Note

Voices of OSU Women uses the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer, the Omeka web publishing platform, and the OHMSObject plug-in to present born digital oral history media alongside full transcripts or, in some cases, detailed interview indexes. The website is built upon the Seasons Omeka theme, which has been lightly modified through custom .css and .php scripting. These pieces of custom code have been released and are freely available for download through the OSU Libraries and Press GitHub instance.
