Letter from Linus Pauling to Dennis Flanagan. March 8, 1951.
Pauling writes to approve of an article to be written on his sickle cell anemia work
and to convey his pitched excitement over his recent breakthroughs related to the
structure of proteins. He writes, "It seems to me to be just about the most important
step forward that has been made during the last 25 years or perhaps 50 years in this
