Letter from Linus Pauling to C. Lockard Conley. August 1, 1978. Pauling writes to discuss the roots of his interest in the study of hemoglobin. In
so doing, Pauling mentions work carried out in collaboration with Charles Coryell
on the sigmoid oxygen equilibrium curve of hemoglobin, the impact made upon him by
other colleagues including Karl Landsteiner and Dan Campbell, and the transition of
