330 Lincoln Hall University of Illinois Urbana, Illinois February 24, 1947
Professor Albert Einstein Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists Room 28 90 Nassau Street Princeton, New Jersey
Dear Professor Einstein: In reply to yours of the 15th, I enclose a check for $5.00, a pitifully small contribution to the important work which you suggest. It occurs to me that more might be accomplished in our city here if you would address our local organization, known as the "Champaign-Urbana Committee on Atomic Energy". The secretary of this committee is Mrs. C.P. Siess, 402 South Rae Street, Urbana, Illinois. I am sending your letter to them, but I believe that a request directly from you might be helpful. If this committee for any reason does not feel like sponsoring an appeal for funds for the purpose you have indicated, I shall be glad to do what I can on the campus of the University of Illinois, and no doubt can get others to assist. It was an honor to have heard from you, even through a form letter, and especially in aid of so important an effort.
Very sincerely yours, [signature] Donald R. Taft Professor of Sociology DRT:hb
