In this interview, J.B. Bielman discusses his personal background and his work in the logging industry. Bielman discusses the land he has cultivated and talks about the work he has done on it. He also talks about the tools he has used as a logger, and notes that his land has been used as a wedding venue in the past.
Bielman then recounts his start in the logging industry. He explains that he began working in the forests as a teenager, when he helped his father cut wood for his sawmill. He also describes how he met Dick Daugherty, his business partner, and recounts the work they did for Starker Forests. The interview concludes with a discussion of Bielman’s family background.
J.B. Bielman was born in 1917, in Seattle, Washington. His family later moved to Beaverton, Oregon, where he attended high school and began to work in the logging industry. After graduating, Bielman continued his work as a logger. He was married twice, first to Alyce Walton, with whom he had four children, and later to Edith Hancock. He continued to live in western Oregon until his death in 2013.
