Title

Miss Darling Divine Oral History Interview, September 13, 2021

Description

Miss Darling Divine introduces herself as a Burlesque artist, choreographer, producer, and teacher. Her day job is as a massage therapist. She defines Burlesque as an expression of one’s sexuality and one’s inner being. She explains she does all styles of Burlesque. Divine shares the difficulties in finding dance performance opportunities as an adult. She states that Burlesque gives that creative outlet as well as a supportive community of like-minded artists.

Miss Darling details the various performance venues in Bend, how receptive the business community has been, and how enthusiastic the audiences are. She highlights that it’s the women in the audience that are so encouraging.

Divine credits Burlesque with being a force for social change, and describes seeing more openness and acceptance in Bend towards the LGBTQ+ community since Burlesque has been happening. She further credits Burlesque for helping her develop her business, project management, financial, and marketing skills.
