Description

Linus Pauling was bestowed with an honorary Doctor of Science degree at Oregon State Agricultural College in June 1933. He was an alumni of Oregon Agricultural College (Class of 1922) and later in his career a two-time Nobel Prize winner (Chemistry, 1954; Peace, 1962). The 1933 commencement program stated that Pauling was "now acclaimed among the distinguished scientists of our time." Included in the photograph (left to right) are Dr. Marvin Gordon Neale, Commencement speaker; David C. Henny, honorary degree recipient; Dr. Linus C. Pauling; Dr. William J. Kerr, Chancellor of the Oregon State System of Higher Education and OSAC president from 1907-1932; and Charles A. Howard, honory degree recipient.
