Abstract

The Gallagher Collection consists predominantly of engineering site reports for former military sites in Oregon (Camp Adair, Camp White, and McNary Field).

Items from this collection have been digitized and are available in Oregon Digital.

Scope and Content Notes

This collection consists of photographs of Camp Adair; engineering reports (with photographs) about Camp Adair, Camp White (Medford, Oregon), the Corvallis Airport, and McNary Field (Salem, Oregon); and property appraisals of two Corvallis Sand and Gravel Company sites.

An addition to the Gallagher Collection (Accession 2001:118) consists of 75 B/W prints of aerial views of the 1964 flood in Corvallis, the Corvallis Sand and Gravel facilties in South Corvallis, an unidentified snowy mountain top (possibly Mary's Peak), and the Corvallis Airport.

A second addition to the Gallagher Collection (Accession 2003:085) consists of about 450 photographic prints and negatives collected by John H. Gallagher and his son, John H. Gallagher Jr. Primarily aerial views of the Willamette River landscape in Southern Corvallis, the bulk of these images were taken and obtained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Western Ways Inc. Many of the photographs document the facilities and operations of the Corvallis Sand and Gravel Company, a family business established by John Gallagher located in South Corvallis on the banks of the river, and include images of river dredging and street paving taken from both the ground level and the air. There are also aerial views of the general Corvallis region during the 1964 flood in this accession. Panoramic ground views of the Corvallis Sand and Gravel Company plant that were joined together by tape were also found found among these images.

Items from this collection have been digitized and are available in Oregon Digital.
