Abstract

Norma Olson Potter came to Oregon Agricultural College in 1919 as Instructor in Expression and Dramatic Art. These materials pertain to her career and interests.

Organized by type of material. Materials pertain to the career and interests of Norma Olson Potter. Includes biographical information from her Heart of the Valley Center (Corvallis) resident's file; a certificate from the OSC chapter of the National Collegiate Players Fraternity; drama programs, 1914-1931; American Magazine clipping, Listen to Yourself Talk by Maud Scheerer; magazine clippings about drama; Hillsboro Argus clipping on James Withycombe, 1952; scrapbook pages containing drama programs, newspaper and magazine clippings about drama, and correspondence, 1919-1923; and cards.

Photographs include two portraits of Potter; horseback riding, circa 1920s; OAC representatives at a Dairy Show (Portland?), 1912; and scenes of Portland, Oregon.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Norma Olson was born in Port Townsend, Washington, on October 26, 1896. She studied dramatic arts at Emerson College in Boston after graduating from high school. In 1919 she came to Oregon Agricultural College as Instructor in Expression and Dramatic Art. Olson directed several drama productions at OAC until her resignation in 1922. The next year she married Ermine L. Potter, at that time Professor of Animal Husbandry at OAC. She continued her interest in drama, and directed productions for the Corvallis Woman's Club. E. L. Potter died in 1975; Norma Olson Potter died on August 4, 1988, after having lived at the Heart of the Valley Center in Corvallis since 1976.
