Abstract
The Norman C. Franklin Collection consists of a scrapbook of materials pertaining to and collected by Norman Franklin. The scrapbook is primarily made up of newspaper clippings that document Franklin's involvement on the legendary "Ironmen" football team of 1933 as well as the other members of that team.
Scope and Content Notes
This collection includes correspondence, dance cards, newspaper clippings, photographs, and a scrapbook. Assembled by Franklin, the scrapbook is primarily made up of newspaper clippings that document Franklin's involvement on the legendary "Ironmen" football team of 1933 as well as the other members of that team. The photographs and loose clippings also relate to Franklin's experience as a football player. There are also obituaries for Franklin and images of his gravesite included among the clippings and images. The correspondence consists of two letters of condolence to Franklin's widow received shortly after his death in 1947.
Biographical / Historical Notes
Born in 1911, Norman Franklin attended Oregon State College from 1931 to 1935. A member of the legendary "Ironmen" football team of 1933, Franklin played for the team from 1932 to 1934 and was named "All-American Halfback." After college, Franklin operated a grocery store in Lebanon, Oregon. He died in 1947.
