Abstract

The Alice Fisher Community Drama Class Scrapbook consists of materials created and assembled by Fisher for a community drama class she completed at Oregon State College in 1931. Fisher earned a BS in Vocational Education from Oregon State in 1932.

Scope and Content Notes

The Alice Fisher Community Drama Class Scrapbook consists of materials assembled by Fisher for the Community Drama class (PSp 466) that she took at Oregon State College in the spring term of 1931. The bulk of the scrapbook consists of images clipped from magazines and newspapers illustrating clothing and furniture styles from various historical eras. The scrapbook also contains class notes, a copy of the final examination, and a program for the production of My Fair Lady performed in Portland. Several of the clippings depict stage sets for non-campus productions.

Courses in community drama were offered by the Public Speaking and Dramatics Department in order to provide community leaders with a background in the community drama concept, technical training in stage setting and costuming, and experience with directing and play production.

An addition to the collection (Accession 2015:005) is made up of class notes, course handouts, exams, and research papers. The subjects reflected in Fisher's collected coursework include household administration, journalism, education, French, geology, and theatre. Of particular interest among the research papers/assignments are observational studies of children at the campus nursery school and a prompt book for the play "The Twelve Pound Look." Other items found in this transfer consist of a small calendar booklet with handwritten notations and a constitution for the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
