Abstract

The Agricultural Research Foundation Records consist of annual and biennial reports documenting the financial status and research funded by the Foundation. The Agricultural Research Foundation was founded in 1934 to encourage and facilitate agricultural research by scientists associated with Oregon State University.

Scope and Content Notes

The Agricultural Research Foundation Records consist of annual and biennial reports and financial statements. The reports document the financial status of the Foundation and the agricultural research projects it funded. Most of the reports are annual reports; however the first report for 1934-1936 and several reports in the mid-1940s and mid-1950s are for two years.

Reports for 1934-1936 through 1967-1968 are on microfilm.

Paper reports are available for 1940-1941 and 1943-1944 through 2006-2007. Reports for 1969-1970, 1970-1971, 1976-1977 thru 1978-1979, 1981-1982 thru 1983-1984, and 1990-1991 thru 1993-1994 are not included in the collection.

Reports through 1988-1989 include summaries of all projects funded by the Foundation. The projects were in a wide range of research areas, including agricultural chemistry, agricultural engineering, agricultural and resource economics, botany and plant pathology, crop science, entomology fisheries and wildlife, food science and technology, horticulture, livestock, microbiology, rangeland resources, soil science, and veterinary medicine.

The financial statements are for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1988 and June 30, 1989.

An addition to the Agricultural Research Foundation Records (Accession 2014:011) is made up of two annual reports generated by the Agricultural Research Foundation for the years 1977-1978 and 1981-1982.

Biographical / Historical Notes

The Agricultural Research Foundation was founded in 1934 to encourage, facilitate, and fund agricultural research by scientists associated with Oregon State University. As of 2006-2007, the Foundation had assets of more than $13 million and in its 73-year existence had generated over $116 million in state, federal, and private donations for agricultural research. The Foundation works closely with the College of Agricultural Sciences and the Agricultural Experiment Station.

Processing Information: Reports for 1934-1935 through 1988-1989 were previously part of the University Publications Collections (PUB 6-24a) and the Development Office and OSU Foundation Records (RG 144) and were transferred to this collection at the time of preparation of this finding aid in 2008.
