The Albert D. Taylor Collection contains scrapbooks, landscape designs and surveys, photographs of scale models, and photographs and post cards documenting a trip to Europe taken during the summer of 1907.

Scope and Content Notes

The Albert D. Taylor Collection contains a scrapbook primarily consisting of landscape designs and surveys drawn by Taylor in 1915. Also included are office forms and correspondence related to office forms. The collection also contains photographs and post cards collected on a tour throughout Europe in the summer of 1907. A scrapbook of photographs of scale models built by Leroy Grumbine is likewise included in the collection.

An addition to the Albert D. Taylor Collection (Accession 2014:028) is made up of three copies of a report authored by the landscape architect Taylor on a proposed redevelopment plan of Florida Capitol Center complex in Tallahassee, Florida. In addition to Taylor's personal copy of the finished report, this transfer also contains the "dummy" copy with the original photographs and typed text as well as the page proof version. All three copies contain handwritten notations by Taylor.

Biographical / Historical Notes

Born in 1883, Albert D. Taylor established one of the first landscape architecture firms in Ohio and went on to help found the landscape architecture program at Ohio State University (where he also taught). In 1925, President Kerr invited Taylor to assist in updating the campus plan for OSU. Many of Taylor's recommendations in his 1926 report were implemented, including the relocation of farm buildings to the west of 30th street and the transformation of that avenue into a tree-lined boulevard. In 1940, OSC recognized Taylor's work with a honorary doctor of science degree. Taylor, in kind, donated to the college several scrapbooks, photographs, and other materials that form the core of the Albert D. Taylor Collection. He died in 1951.
